Day of the Serbian language in Romania

Within the 13th Days of the Serbian culture organized by the Union of Serbs in Romania and the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia, a Solemn academy of the Day of the Serbian Language in Romania was held in the Culture Center of Union of Serbs in Timisoara on 21 November, 2018. The day of the Serbian language in Romania (November 21st) was established by law of the Parliament of Romania on September 6, 2016, symbolizing the day when writer and publicist from Timisoara Dimitrije Pantic Tirol informed to Vuk Karadzic that he printed the first edition of “Banat’s almanac” with new letters, which represents by itself one of the first publications in the Serbian language.
Ceremony was attended, among numerous audiences, by vice president of „Matica Srpska“ and president of the Assembly of “House of Vuk's Foundation” Dr. Miodrag Maticki, director of “House of Vuk's Foundation” Dr. Slavko Vejinovic, president of the board of directors of Fundation "Dositej Obradovic" prof. Dr Dušan Ivanic, president of Union of Serb in Romania Mr. Ognjan Krstic, honorary president of the Union of Serbs in Romania Dr. Slavomir Gvozdenovic and Consul General Dr. Vladan Tadic.
The speech about Serbian language was held by prof. Dr Dusan Ivanic and after the performance of the choir of the Serbian Theoretical Gymnasium "Dositej Obradović" from Timisoara, the concert was held by the Symphony Orchestra "Guardia" from Požarevac with the Mrs. Marta Blagojevic.
On the same occasion, visitors were able to see an exhibition of the first book of Serbian letters printed in Romania from 1723.
